Recently, I invited several former and current West Indian cricketers from across Greater Manchester to visit the “West Indians in the Lancashire Leagues Cricket Exhibition”, which I helped to produce, at the world-famous Old Trafford Cricket Ground, home of the Lancashire County Cricket Club. This visit coincided with the first day of the Lancashire vs. Middlesex match.
For many of the cricketers, it was like taking a trip down memory lane, especially those who played semi-professionally in various cricket leagues throughout Lancashire and its neighbouring counties, such as Cheshire, Yorkshire, and Cumbria. These individuals are pioneers, having established several successful Caribbean cricket clubs in the region.
In addition to visiting the exhibition, the cricketers were given an informative presentation on the World First Cricket Hall of Fame, which is in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
The Cricket Hall of Fame proudly endorses the “West Indians in the Lancashire Cricket Leagues Exhibition,” recognising it as a vital celebration of the rich legacy of West Indian cricketers in the North of England.
There is also an opportunity for induction into the Cricket Hall of Fame for both former and current West Indian cricketers, umpires, founding members of West Indian cricket clubs, and influential figures from across the UK, including the northwest regions such as Preston, Manchester, Bolton, Stockport, Oldham, and Liverpool.
