Marcia Sey has been an outstanding success of the summer athletics season. The young South Londoner of Ghanaian parents set down her marker of excellence by winning the British 100 metres hurdles championship in a record 12.65 seconds – making her fourth in the all-time UK list. Nobody could be more enthusiastic for her success than Lorna Boothe MBE, OLY her performance coach and tutor and herself a Commonwealth Games gold-medallist in the same event.
Lorna was happy to fill Caribcommx readers in on Marcia’s background and promise prospects. She told us:
“Marcia Sey, is a professional British athlete competing in the 100m hurdles. She was born and raised in South London, UK. The daughter of Ghanaian parents.
She moved to the United States to pursue both her education and track career. Marcia graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and is currently completing her master’s degree in Social Work at Howard University.
Marcia began her athletics journey at Croydon Harriers, where she was first coached by Paul Weston. As her career progressed, she moved schools, coaches, and clubs and at the age of 14 she began training with Olympian Lorna Boothe, MBE. To enhance her competition experience she joined Blackheath & Bromley Harriers and continued her education at Millfield (with Lorna setting training schedules), one of the country’s leading sports schools. In her final year before moving to the United States, she returned home to continue her development under Lorna’s guidance.
During her collegiate career at The Ohio State University, she was coached by Joel Brown and after transferring to Howard University, is now coached by Olympic Bronze medallist and former World Champion at 110mt Hurdles, David Oliver. On her trips back to the UK to compete in the British season for selection purposes she is still supported by Lorna.

Throughout her track career, Marcia has earned numerous titles, including English Schools Champion and England Age Group Champion. She has represented Great Britain at both the European U18 and European U20 Championships. More recently, in 2025, she was placed third at the NCAA Championships. In 2026, Marcia became the British Champion in the 100m hurdles, winning in a Championship Record time of 12.65 seconds. That performance moved her to fourth on the UK all-time list, behind Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tiffany Porter, and Cindy Sember.
Following the success of these past two seasons, Marcia has signed her first professional contract with Adidas with whom she is looking forward to building a long and successful partnership, as she continues to pursue her goals of representing Great Britain at future World Championships and Olympic Games.
Marcia’s goal is to establish herself as one of the world’s top hurdlers”.
Thank you, Lorna, and thank you Marcia – see you again soon!
