Joiada Lartey, 29 years-old, who was born (and lives in) London and has mixed Ghanaian (predominantly) and Jamaican heritage, believes that she has the correct blend of contest experience, life-style and motivation to win the 28th Miss Caribbean & Commonwealth title which she learned about from the social media. She describes herself as being “adventurous, confident and hard-working”.
She told readers: “I am connected to Ghana- the country I am representing as it is my main home town where my family are from. Ghana holds a big place in my heart as it is home away from home! I love the environment, culture, food, people and the peace that is felt each time I travel there”.
Her hobbies include travelling, exploring new places and doing different activities. She enjoys going to the gym, and has started playing Tennis and Padel which is her new hobby.
Joiada went to school in North-west London and studied in West London as a teenager. After completion of secondary school and sixth form, she attended university in Leicester. A few years after graduation from her Education studies degree, she continued her Education including a teaching degree in which she gained a PGCE. She is currently a primary school teacher.
Ms Lartey added: “I have travelled to Thailand to Teach English for 1 month, I have experience teaching in Ghana and have carried out different charity work abroad. I am someone who is not afraid to go places solo and explore. I like to try new things, have new experiences and see what the world has to offer. Anything I put my mind to, I always try and give my all. I do not let failure put me down but rather use it as motivation to do better”.
As for her motivation Joiada said: “I believe I can bring empowerment, dedication, a hard working attitude and great empathy and respect towards those whom I will be working with and serving. I have a strong passion for education and giving back to the community so I hope to use my title to carry out work to help support this passion”.
She has competed in Miss Ghana UK (2019), Miss Africa International UK (2020) and Miss Pride of Africa UK (2022) and previously won the title of Miss Beauty- for being the most beautiful, elegant and eloquent contestant “when I competed in my second pageant”.
